Are you a young person aged 16-24 interested in creative technology? We are looking for someone to help the OBX team with technical support in running workshops, talks, exhibitions and arts projects.
OBX is the creative technology hub within Hastings Commons, based on the mezzanine floor of the Observer Building and often runs its events from this space, but expect some opportunities for outreach and external work also.
‘At OBX, we work with local communities and artists to run workshops, talks, exhibitions and arts projects. We explore opportunities presented by creative tech to build stronger communities, develop great art and talent and support employment potential, while also aiming to be community-led.’
What is ‘creative technology’?
Creative technology has many applications in the real world and often brings together computing, design and art.
If you have participated in any of these activities then you’ll likely have worked with creative tech:
- Publicised a social media post
- You are interested in gaming and how games are created
- Edited an image/photo/video/animation
- Designed a poster
- Used a printer, using ink or a 3D printer
- Painted using an app on a phone, tablet or computer
- Made music on a phone, tablet or computer
- Attended college courses such as games development, graphic design, media studies etc.
- Coding lessons in ICT/ Computing classes at school or college
Responsibilities:
- Working with OBX staff, you will provide technical support for events, talks and workshops using various hardware and software
- Learn to contribute to the running of events
- Learn to produce and programme content as well as acquiring and implementing knowledge of emerging technologies
- Support the OBX team to create a space where children and young people are keen to come along to
Requirements:
- Experience of the digital world and an interest in the wider industry
- Knowledge of applications such as Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides or similar
- Keen to work with young people and being able to liaise with staff, children and families as well as visitors to the OBX space
- Good organisational skills and communication with the team
- WIlling to learn to use various hardware and software to continue to innovate on what OBX can deliver
