OBX Connects is a new series of monthly talks and meet-ups for creative people working with technology. The talks are free, and open to everyone. They are held on the first Thursday of each month at OBX (Hastings Commons’ creative digital hub), on the Mezzanine Floor in the Observer Building. If you are an artist, maker, technologist, engineer, dancer, musician, or curious about what we do, come along to find out more!
In September, dance artist Katie Dale-Everett talked about her immersive performance Playscape: How to Build A Galaxy. She talked about how her practice in dance, motion capture technology and visuals open up new possibilities for physical, social and digital connection. This was followed up with a community round up, where people talked about their own work.
The next OBX Connects is on Thursday 5 October from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. The focus will be looking at current perspectives on AI and how it is impacting our lives. We will be asking questions like:
How does AI impact creativity? Who is controlling the technology? How can we get involved and have our say in its future?
We have talks by artists and designers working with AI, and there will be an open Q+A discussion for you to share your thoughts. Christos Hatjoullis is Creative Director of pioneering moving image collective ShroomStudio and will present his recent thought experiments with Midjourney, a tool to create AI visuals. Simon Crab is a music maker and academic. He will be talking about the social impact of Artificial Intelligence: how it will impact us as individuals and collectively as communities.
